Nick Carter rejects the accusations leveled against him. Carter’s lawyer, Liane K. Wakayama, responded to Melissa Schuman’s lawsuit against him for claimed sexual assault and abuse from 2003 in a statement to ET.
Melissa Schuman has been spreading this rumor for a long time, but Wakayama’s response said that both the original and subsequent versions of her complaint were untrue.
According to Schuman’s lawsuit, which Rolling Stone was able to receive, the former Backstreet Boy member groomed, manipulated, and sexually assaulted her using “his role, status, and power as a well-known singer.”
When Schuman was 18 years old, she claimed that Carter forced himself on her in his Santa Monica residence and stole her virginity. Schuman first revealed these charges in a 2017 blog post.
They initially connected through their separate teams before being cast as co-stars in a movie. According to Schuman’s blog post, she opted to keep working on the film despite the alleged attack because she was worried about how it would affect her career if she didn’t.
After the alleged encounter, Schuman alleges in her lawsuit that Carter continued to “manipulate and torment” her. She also says that he made several phone calls to her. She also made the assumption that Carter might be the cause of her stagnant career.
Schuman said in a statement to Rolling Stone, “I’ve faced extraordinary backlash for standing up for myself; I am not the first, however my intention is that I am the last.” It’s time influential people in the music business understood that they could no longer afford to support and enable sexual abusers. I’m working to make the music business a safer place to operate in.

According to Melissa’s lawyer, Jeff Anderson, “Melissa’s case illustrates how strong, well-known people can use their fan base as a weapon to intimidate and harass the survivors of their crimes.” We now have the chance to demonstrate that these crimes have legal repercussions, at long last.
Carter is not the only one who is now being sued by Schuman. Shannon Ruth filed a lawsuit against Carter in December, alleging that the musician sexually abused her on his tour bus in 2001 when she was 17 years old.
Carter’s then-attorney Michael Holtz previously told ET in a statement that “this claim about an incident that supposedly took place more than 20 years ago is not only legally meritless but also entirely untrue.” “Unfortunately, Ms. Ruth has been duped into making false accusations against Nick for a number of years; these accusations have altered frequently and dramatically over time. There is absolutely no truth to this accusation, as the courts will swiftly understand, therefore no one should be duped by a press stunt organized by an opportunistic attorney.
Carter filed a $2.3 million counterclaim in February in response to Ruth’s action against her, Schuman, and Schuman’s father, Jerome Schuman. Carter alleged in his lawsuit that the defendants had been attempting to extort money from him for years and that the charges had cost the Backstreet Boys millions in potential earnings.
Given Nick Carter’s extensive history of mistreating women, why should anyone believe him? Mark Boskovich, Ruth’s lawyer, questioned in a statement to ET. The evidence will be considered and decided by a jury.

Carter’s countersuit was upheld despite Ruth’s request for the court to dismiss it.
“A judge in Nevada recently ruled, after reviewing the extensive evidence we laid out, that there are strong grounds for Nick Carter to proceed with his lawsuit against Ms. Schuman for conspiring to harm, defame and extort Nick, his associates, his friends, and his family,” the statement read, adding that Schuman’s suit is “at once both predictable and pathetic” in light of the Nevada ruling.
The statement concluded, “This PR gimmick won’t discourage Nick from his commitment to hold Ms. Schuman and her co-conspirators accountable for the incalculable pain and suffering their extortionate conduct has caused.
According to Schuman’s legal representative, Jeff Anderson, Carter’s defamation case is a desperate last-ditch effort to save his notoriety and reputation. He is aware that his options are limited. He has ran out of lies to tell. He is aware that his chance to avoid responsibility is drawing near.
