Keefe D, a crucial character in one of hip-hop’s most memorable cases, is facing significant legal challenges as his trial for Tupac Shakur’s 1996 murder approaches.
Duane “Keefe D” Davis, charged with the rapper’s murder in 2023, has pled not guilty and is scheduled to stand trial on March 17. His time in prison, however, has not been without incident.
A prison fight results in new charges
The newest twist in Keefe D’s legal saga occurred following a violent altercation at the Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas. According to TMZ, Keefe D got into a physical battle with another inmate, which developed into what officials described as “mutual combat.” The altercation featured grappling, punching, and Keefe placing the other inmate in a headlock.
Prison officers were forced to intervene and use pepper spray to break up the brawl. As a result, Keefe D is now facing an extra charge of battery brought by the other inmate. While the cause of the altercation is unknown, Keefe D claims he was simply “standing his ground” and was not to blame.

Keefe D’s alarming statements about Tupac
While Keefe D maintains his innocence in Tupac’s murder, his previous statements have created questions. Keefe’s 2019 memoir, Compton Street Legend, has unsettling revelations regarding Tupac and the events leading up to his death. “Tupac chose the wrong game and the wrong n**gas to play with,” he said, accusing Tupac’s associates of failing to protect him.

A delayed trial creates tension
The Tupac murder trial, which was originally set for November 2024, has been postponed and will now begin in March. As the expectation grows, Keefe D’s history of inflammatory remarks and legal issues adds levels of intrigue to an already high-profile case.
