Smith disclosed last month that Prince and he had previously deliberated the possibility of establishing an entertainment company with JAY-Z. However, the legendary vocalist passed away just hours later.

Will disclosed during his appearance on the Broken Record podcast with Justin Richmond that he had not only experienced that moment with Prince prior to his passing in 2016, but also encountered Biggie Smalls mere hours prior to his passing in 1997.

He elaborated, “I conversed with Prince for eight hours prior to his passing.” “He contacted me and began to present his proposal.” He was proposing that JAY-Z, myself, and him establish an entertainment company. Additionally, he stated that he had conversed with Jay and was inclined to perform the task. We conversed that evening and in the morning; however, he had already departed.

Will Smith and JAY-Z have collaborated in numerous capacities since then; however, their collaborations have been achieved through the merger of their respective enterprises, rather than by operating under a single entity.

In 2020, Jay’s Roc Nation and Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment collaborated to bring the narrative of Emmett Till and his mother Mamie Till Mobley to the small screen.

The 65th anniversary of Till’s murder by two white men in Mississippi on August 28, 1955, marked the announcement of the limited series. Mobley requested that the casket of the Chicago teenager be left uncovered during his funeral in order to allow attendees to observe the brutality and mutilation that her son endured. The civil rights movement of the 1960s was significantly influenced by Till’s death.

In 2021, the entertainment moguls made an investment in the startup Landis Technologies, which is dedicated to assisting thousands of renters in transitioning to homeownership.

Roc Nation and Smith’s Dreamers VC were among the investors who assisted Landis in raising more than $165 million. The influx of funds will be allocated to the acquisition of approximately 1,000 residences. The property will be rented to low-income families by the company until they are eligible for a mortgage.
