The initial trailer for Alec Baldwin’s “Rust” has been released, over three years following the terrible on-set shooting that claimed Halyna Hutchins’ life.
The trailer is filled with quintessential Western action—equestrian pursuits, gunfights, and much drama—while simultaneously paying tribute to Halyna, whose name appears as cinematographer in the credits alongside her husband, Matthew Hutchins, who acted as executive producer on the film.
Bianca Cline assumed the role of cinematographer following Halyna’s demise, and the brief teaser indicates that both have demonstrated exceptional skill, since the film’s graphics appear outstanding.

Baldwin features prominently in the trailer, which also presents teen actor Patrick Scott McDermott as Lucas, a 13-year-old orphan who inadvertently kills a rancher in Kansas and subsequently flees with his grandfather.

“Rust” is scheduled to premiere in U.S. theaters on May 2, having already debuted at the Camerimage Film Festival in Toruń, Poland, last November, where it received favorable reviews.
It may be challenging for audiences to dissociate the film from the tragedy that transpired during production.
Baldwin was exonerated of manslaughter in July of the previous year after fatally shooting cameraman Halyna on the New Mexico set in 2021.
The public’s reception of “Rust” upon its formal publication will be intriguing to observe.
