After defeating Drake in 2024, Kendrick Lamar has multiple opportunities to gain even more honors—ten, to be exact.
Kendrick Lamar has a lot of categories to choose from at the 51st American Music Awards. According to Billboard, he has received ten nominations, more than any other artist. These consist of Collaboration of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Artist of the Year, and more.
His victory in the Favorite Hip-Hop Album category, however, may have been the most impressive aspect of the award presentation. He has three of the five seats there, giving him a 60% probability of winning. “Not Like Us” and “Like That,” two Drake diss tracks, and his GNX splash, “luther.”

The song “Not Like Us” also has a chance to win another “song of the year” award. Despite being the legitimate owner of three AMA victories, Kendrick Lamar has an opportunity to create history this year. Given his ten nominations, he would tie Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston for the most prizes in a single year if he were to win eight of them.

Houston followed suit ten years after the King of Pop done so in 1984. Post Malone has eight nominations, which is the next closest number at the 2025 show. Shaboozey with seven, Billie Eilish, and Chappell Roan are also making a lot of noise.

Surprisingly, Taylor Swift, who has 40 wins overall, only has six. The AMAs will air on Paramount+ in the United States on May 26 and premiere on CBS at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT if you intend to watch. The show will be hosted by Jennifer Lopez for the second time in her career. She hadn’t done so since 2015.
During Kendrick’s Grand National globe tour, this news breaks. It began in Minneapolis on the weekend of April 19. SZA, his “luther” co-star, and Mustard, the producer of “Not Like Us,” are traveling with him. On August 9, the journey will come to an end in Stockholm, Sweden.
