At his appearance in a federal court in New York City on Friday, the accused killer of the CEO of UnitedHealthcare entered a not guilty plea to one count of murder by use of a firearm, two charges of stalking, and one firearms offense for allegedly employing a suppressor.
The deadline for that is May 27. The judge mandated that all information be given to the defense within 30 days.
As you are aware, Mangione’s team has resisted the death penalty, which federal prosecutors want to apply on him. Early this month, each of them filed their paperwork.

As we previously reported, Mangione was taken into custody in December, just a few days after he was accused of shooting and killing Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare, in the early hours of the morning on a street in New York City.
The murder sparked a multi-day manhunt… that came to an end when a McDonald’s employee in Pennsylvania reported him to the authorities.
For allegedly killing Thompson, Luigi is charged with both state and federal murder. In December, he entered a not guilty plea to state murder charges.
Months of preparation preceded the murder, according to Mangione’s purported diary, with one item stating that “insurance is the target” since it “checks all the boxes.”

Others, such as writer Taylor Lorenz, who has been controversial for her analysis of the case, are more ambivalent about the accused murderer, while others, like President Donald Trump, have criticized Mangione and his followers.
Neither the federal case nor the state case has a trial date yet.
