A former client and friend, Mary J. Blige, is being sued by stylist Misa Hylton for reportedly refusing to release rapper Vado’s finished album until he severs his relationship with the fashion designer.
In court filings that AllHipHop was able to obtain, Hylton claims that MJB has tried to undermine her business partnership with Vado through her M.I.S.A. Management company. She claims that Blige’s business, Beautiful Life Productions, obstructed the signed management agreement between Vado and Hylton, which would have entitled her agency to 20% of the rapper’s profits. According to Hylton, Blige “isolated Vado and steered him away from the contract” by using her power.
According to documents, during “private yacht gatherings, hotel meetings, and exclusive events,” where neither Misa nor her M.I.S.A. Management representatives were present, Blige tried to convince Vado to violate his management agreement with Hylton. Additionally, Blige’s chief security guard, who is referred to as her boyfriend, allegedly sought to sign Vado and warned him that if he stayed with M.I.S.A., he would “lose out on opportunities.”

On July 25, 2023, Vado inked a contract with M.I.S.A Management. On October 1, 2023, he signed a contract with Beautiful Life Productions. According to Paperwork, Blige stated in private communications that she would not permit Vado to perform “as long as he stayed with M.I.S.A.” or release his record, which he finished in July 2024.
According to Hylton, Vado was left in “economic servitude” when Blige shelved his album, unable to pay back advances associated with his recording contract or earn any genuine income for himself. For breach of contract, emotional suffering, and disruption of business connections, they are presently requesting $5 million in damages.
