Grammy winner Lainey Wilson will star in her first feature film in Universal’s adaptation of “Reminders of Him,” a best-selling novel by Colleen Hoover.

Maika Monroe, Tyriq Withers, Lauren Graham, Rudy Pankow, Bradley Whitford, and Nicholas Duvernay are among the cast members that Wilson joins.

Since she contributed the original song “Out of Oklahoma” to the smash hit “Twisters” last year, the country music icon already has a relationship with Universal. The song received numerous award nominations, including from the Society of Composers and Lyricists and the Guild of Music Supervisors. The entire soundtrack received a Grammy nomination and peaked at number one on the Billboard country charts.

It should be noted that Wilson has acted before. Starting in Season 5, she played the musician Abby in a recurring role on “Yellowstone.” Following the debut of her song in Season 2 of the critically acclaimed series, Taylor Sheridan developed the character especially for Wilson. Alex Sera, WME, Mandelyn Monchick, Red Light Management, Sacks & Co. represent Wilson, who was also named Variety’s Hitmakers Storyteller of the Year in 2024.

“Reminders of Him” will be directed by Vanessa Caswill. Together with Lauren Levine, Hoover authored the screenplay, and the two are producing the movie through Heartbones Entertainment. Little Engine Productions is the production company owned by Gina Matthews. Executive producer Robin Fisichella is involved. The studio’s project will be managed by Christine Sun, director of production development.

The narrative centers on Kenna Rowan (Monroe), who returns to her hometown after serving five years in prison for a horrific mistake. The film is described as a “transformative feature picture about motherhood, forgiveness, and the power of one love to heal even the most damaged heart.” Despite everyone’s efforts to keep them apart, she wishes to get back in touch with her young daughter. The local bar owner Ledger Ward (Withers), who plays a significant role in Kenna’s life, is the only person in the region who hasn’t rejected her. Pankow portrays Scotty Landry, the late father of Kenna’s daughter and her first love.

Published in 2022, the book “Reminders of Him” has been translated into 45 languages and has sold over 6.5 million copies worldwide. After winning a bidding war for the book rights, Universal intends to premiere the film in theaters on February 13, 2026, just in time for Valentine’s Day.

“Reminders of Him” is only one of several Hoover bestseller adaptations now in development. Her best-selling novel “It Ends With Us” was made into a successful film starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, which brought in $344 million worldwide. Despite having a $25 million budget, Baldoni’s Sony film made a tremendous profit. Next up is Amazon MGM Studios’ “Verity,” which stars Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson, and Josh Hartnett. On May 15, 2026, the psychological thriller will be widely available in theaters.
