On a day of red flag warnings owing to strong Santa Ana winds in Southern California, firefighters halted the forward advance of a brush fire Tuesday morning that endangered buildings in the Hollywood Hills.

Around 10 a.m., the 8400 block of West Sunset Boulevard was the scene of a reported fire. Progress was halted prior to 11 a.m.

The Hollywood region was filled with smoke. The estimated size of the fire was three acres.

Information regarding the origin of the fire was not immediately available.

Widespread areas of the area were placed under red flag warnings on Tuesday morning, signifying a significant risk of fire. It is anticipated that the warnings will be in effect until Thursday.

Red flag warnings were issued Tuesday morning for the Santa Monica Mountains Recreational Area, the San Gabriel, San Fernando, and Santa Clarita valleys, as well as the Malibu shoreline. Strong offshore winds developed at this time. It is anticipated that the warning will end at 6 p.m. on Thursday.

Later on Tuesday, the Palos Verdes Hills, the inland Los Angeles County shoreline that stretches into downtown Los Angeles, and the beaches in Los Angeles County will all be under the red flag warning, which indicates a critical fire hazard.

Strong winds and dry conditions could cause any brush fires that do start to spread swiftly.
