Mel Gibson’s Malibu mansion is literally a pile of ashes, yet he maintains a remarkably humorous, positive attitude about it, remarking that he’s “never seen a place so perfectly burnt.”
Mel’s 6,500 square foot home was destroyed in the Pacific Palisades Fire, which was fueled by 100 MPH wind gusts… all while Mel was out of town. The actor/director spoke on News Nation Thursday night to discuss the incident that occurred while he was recording Joe Rogan’s show.
He says he was “ill at ease because I knew my neighborhood was on fire” when speaking with Rogan. He claims the Santa Ana winds were just starting to pick up on Tuesday when he left for Texas, but you have to see how he described the destruction.

MG says, “You could put it in an urn”… referring to what’s left of his house — and after watching the footage he captured of the place, we have to say, his description is spot on!
He claims that another fire last month came within 200 yards of the house, but this time the winds formed the perfect firestorm, destroying the majority of the properties in his area.

Mel claims his amazing optimism stems from knowing that his loved ones were not injured in the fire, which apparently killed at least ten people. Surprisingly, he claims that a coop full of hens on his property survived—or, as he described it, “They weren’t roasted chickens.”
He lived in the house for almost 15 years and says he lost a lot of “cool stuff,” but is confident he can replace it all. Despite the fire risk, he intends to clean up the property “with great ocean views” and rebuild.
Mel laughs, “Hey, anyone wanna buy some land?” when asked if he plans to reside there.
