Tragedy struck hard in the Dominican Republic when a nightclub roof collapsed on partygoers, killing 18 and injuring over 120.
The horrific moment was captured on camera: one minute, fans were dancing to merengue sensation Rubby Pérez onstage at the famed Jet Set nightclub in Santo Domingo, and the next, the roof fell, plunging the venue into darkness and fear.
Pérez was rescued from the rubble, and his manager, Enrique Paulino, who apparently had blood on his chest, claimed it all happened so quickly that he believed it was an earthquake… but he managed to fling himself into a corner just in time.
Former MLB bullpen pitcher Octavio Dotel also survived the disaster.

According to local media, Nelsy Cruz, Monte Cristi’s governor and the sister of former MLB All-Star Nelson Cruz, was among those killed.
Rescue efforts are still underway to hunt for survivors, and Juan Manuel Méndez, head of the Center of Emergency Operations, stated that they believe many people are still alive and would not stop until everyone is hauled out from under the rubble.
Dominican Republic President Luis Abinader also arrived at the scene, offering hugs and encouragement to people looking for friends and relatives.
The cause of the roof collapse is yet unknown.
