Following their unimpressive reaction to Queen’s Sir Brian May singing “Bohemian Rhapsody” beside him, Benson Boone has made fun of the Coachella audience.
At the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, on Friday, April 25, the opening night of this year’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, the 22-year-old sensation sang the song with a full choir and theatrical lights, accompanied onstage by the guitar god.
May, 77, sang his smash hit song “Beautiful Things” on stage beside Boone.

Since then, though, Boone has resorted to TikTok to criticize the lackluster welcome for his enormous visitor.

In order to get a fictitious crowd to sing louder, he uploaded a video of himself singing the mega-hit into a banana while raising his hands and covering his ears.
“I’m trying to convey to the Coachella audience how incredible Brian May is and how much of an influence he has on music and the world,” Boone said as the caption for the video.
Hours before he took the stage in the desert, he had teased the special guest.

He shared photos of them traveling together to Coachella on Instagram with the caption, “Look who I bumped into — on the way to the famed Palm Springs … Perhaps anything will occur!

“Do we appear content?! I will cherish this time on the plane with the 22-year-old prodigy @bensonboone. I’m glad and thrilled to announce that we are now formally friends.
‘American Heart’, Boone’s forthcoming second album, was also announced during his performance.
“I have one more announcement to make,” he said to the crowd. This is more akin to ten songs than one. “American Heart,” my second album, will be released on June 20, 2025.
He performed the title track after that.

“A lot of it is very Bruce Springsteen, Americana, like a little more of a retro vibe,” Boone previously told Rolling Stone about the record. My belief in the song “Beautiful Things” was the beginning of it all. I’ve never had such faith in a body of work, and I currently have an entire album almost finished.”
Lady Gaga headlined Friday’s performance, with other acts including FKA Twigs and Missy Elliot.
