As part of Blue Origin’s most recent space mission, the singer and a number of other members of an all-female, star-studded crew successfully took off and landed Monday. For eleven minutes, Perry suspended her pop star duties to explore the outer orbit.

Television personality Gayle King and journalist Lauren Sanchez, who is betrothed to Jeff Bezos, the founder of Blue Origin (and Amazon), were also part of the NS-31 mission.Film producer Kerianne Flynn, bioastronautics research scientist Amanda Nguyen, and former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe complete the crew.According to Blue Origin, the six ladies made history as the first all-female space crew in almost 60 years.

“I brought that particular bloom because it’s a common plant and it can grow through any circumstances,” Perry said, holding the daisy she brought on the journey.

“This is all for the benefit of Earth,” she stated. Perry went on to say, “I wanted to model courage and worthiness and fearlessness,” admitting that taking that risk was a difficult choice for her as a mother but that she had to “surrender” to the cosmos. “Of course,” she replied, adding that she would undoubtedly compose a song about the encounter.

According to Gayle King, Katy Perry performed for the astronauts.
When King said, “I can’t even believe what I saw,” “I’m so proud of me right now.”

Similar to Sánchez’s observation that it was incredibly quiet in space, King said that the experience was “such a reminder of how we have to do better, be better,” which prompted contemplation on the significance of caring for one another on Earth.

The group was referred to as a “sisterhood” by King, who also disclosed that Perry performed “What a Wonderful World” for the women when they returned to Earth.

Astronauts, Gayle King, and Katy Perry emerge from a rocket capsule.

Viewers waited impatiently for Perry, King, Sánchez, and other individuals to emerge as Blue Origin staff gathered around the capsule to assist with opening preparations.

Bezos welcomed the women and gave Sánchez a hug before she left to visit her kids, tears in her eyes.

Perry held out the daisy she had brought on board and kissed the ground. Nguyen screamed, Bowe cheered, and King pointed to the sky before bending to plant a kiss on the floor.

At the launch, Perry’s daughter Daisy, whom she shares with her fiancé Orlando Bloom, witnessed her mother take off for space.

Prior to takeoff, Perry made a joke about her daughter’s response to the mission: “She’s 4 and a half, so she’s still trying to figure out what day of the week it is.” “But it is very normal for us to talk about mommy going to space now, and I will be so excited to hold her when I land.”

What transpired during the flight of Blue Origin?
The gum-dropped shape crew capsule atop the 60-foot-tall rocket took off on schedule at 9:30 a.m. on Monday.

The New Shepard took off from Launch Site One, Blue Origin’s own ranch in west Texas, and during its ascent, it achieved supersonic speeds of over 2,000 miles per hour.

The women on board went weightless as their spaceship continued toward apogee, or its highest point, at about the three-minute mark, when the rocket booster separated from the crew capsule.

The crew capsule of the New Shepard then embarked on its renowned short flight above the Kármán Line, the widely acknowledged frontier of space that is 62 miles high.e.

The women were now allowed to securely unbuckle from their seats for a brief period of microgravity and to look out the big windows of the spacecraft for a breathtaking view of the Earth. On the webcast, the women on board were heard awestruck by the moon and the faint blue line of Earth’s atmosphere.

About seven minutes after liftoff, the rocket booster returned to the earth, using its engines to slow and control its descent and fins to land two miles from the launchpad.

After that, the capsule started what Blue Origin calls a “stable freefall” and fell back to Earth. After roughly nine minutes of flight, the capsule made a smooth landing in the desert, bringing up dust plumes, and two minutes later, the women on board could be heard whooping with delight as three enormous parachutes deployed.

Following a successful Blue Origin space trip, an all-female crew lands.

Only a short time after departing Earth on Monday, King, Perry, and company made their landing. As the missile touched down, dust exploded.

Celebrities and activists alike traveled to space as part of the project. After entering zero gravity and being unable to unbuckle and float around the cabin, the women’s voices could be heard shouting as they dropped. Shortly after that, they were heard marveling at the moon in mid-flight.

3..2..1 liftoff: Gayle King and Katy Perry travel to space
A gasping audience watched as Perry, King, and their classmates’ space capsule took off Monday morning.

The first-ever rocket to rise upward and transform a pop star, journalist, activist, and others into astronauts was witnessed by Blue Origin employees and the families of the six-woman, all-female crew against the arid, already alien-like backdrop of the Texas desert.

When will Gayle King, Katy Perry, and others travel to space? How to watch the livestream of Blue Origin’s launch
Launch Site One in Southwest Texas is the location of the launch.

The launch window will open at 9:30 a.m. ET, and a webcast is planned to start at 8 a.m. ET.

As her friend and fellow renowned interviewer, Gayle King, prepared to take off, Oprah Winfrey, King’s closest friend, watched on.

Winfrey remarked, “I’ve never been more proud of my friend than today,” and she claimed to be at ease during the entire situation. In observance of King’s call sign, sunshine, Winfrey donned a bright yellow jumper.

She remarked, “This is bigger than just going to space,” referring to her friend who has always been a nervous flyer. “This is breaking through a barrier of dread. I believe it will be therapeutic.

According to Gayle King, Oprah urged her to travel to space.
Prior to blast-off, King informed Blue Origin that Winfrey immediately offered her support when she initially started flirting with the idea of moving away from home with her kids.

“Her friend pointed out how much regret she might have if she had to watch the flight take off and wonder what it would be like to be on it,” King said, adding that Winfrey instantly urged her to take the opportunity.

“You should always know that no dream is too big,” King stated.

Khloe Kardashian and Kris Jenner attend the launch.
Viewers were treated to a star-studded farewell as the all-female crew prepared for flight, with members of the Kardashian-Jenner family appearing to show support.

Kris Jenner remarked, “It’s really something,” and added that Kim Kardashian was also expected to be there but was preparing for a law school test. She continued, “It’s a very brave thing to do,” in reference to the space cruise.

Khloe Kardashian went on to say, “Really, anything you can imagine is within our grasp.” “Dream big, wish for the stars and one day you can maybe be amongst them.”

What is the all-female crew that will travel to space on the New Shepard rocket?
The gum drop-shaped New Shepard launch vehicle, named for astronaut Alan Shepard, the first American in space, is intended to be completely reusable.

There are no professional astronauts or pilots on board because the spaceship runs on its own.

Celebrity crew launches may garner media attention, but most of Blue Origin’s spaceflights with New Shepard thus far haven’t even included humans. An uncrewed New Shepard spacecraft has flown several times carrying scientific payloads on behalf of paying clients, including NASA, in a total of 30 spaceflights.

Blue Origin is leading the commercial space sector.
New Shepard has been a potent representation of Blue Origin’s commercial spaceflight aspirations in the midst of a burgeoning space tourism sector for almost four years since its maiden crewed trip.

Once the domain of government space agencies like NASA, spaceflight is quickly turning into a commercial operation as billionaire-led businesses like Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic, Elon Musk’s SpaceX, and Bezos’ Blue Origin seek to build their own aircraft.

Jared Isaacman, a billionaire who has financed two of his own private spaceflights with SpaceX, is even in the running to become the next leader of the U.S. space agency.

This 11-minute journey does not have the same quarantine regulations as missions that are scheduled to achieve complete orbit and stay in space for a few days. As a result, the women are able to give cameras a shot of them contacting fans and family for a private farewell.

Katy Perry breaks down before her flight.
Perry spoke tearfully in a pre-flight interview about her pride in the trip’s meaning and her love for her family. Perry disclosed that, as a reminder of the value of the planet and, of course, as a tribute to her daughter Daisy, she will take a real-life daisy into orbit.

“I want my family to know how much I adore them. And I am really appreciative to be a courageous woman in my family, which is a ripple effect from my mother, my sister, and most importantly my kid,” she remarked.

Perry wrote in all caps, “I love you,” on X Monday morning, implying a final farewell.

‘I’m going to be wearing lipstick,’ says Katy Perry in space voyage glamor

Earlier this month, Perry told Elle magazine that “Space is going to finally be glam,” adding that she will be getting her hair and cosmetics done for the expedition. “Allow me to share with you. I would bring glitz up with me if I could.

“We’re going to have lash extensions flying in the capsule!” Assuring a concerned King that hers are firmly glued on to ensure they stay in place, Sánchez laughed.

“I think it’s crucial that people perceive us in that way. This contrast between scientist and engineer, followed by beauty and fashion,” Nguyen continued. “There are many different kinds of us. Women are diverse. I will be sporting lipstick.

King, a television host and author who has become an icon, remarked that although she is certain that other people will find her up there significant, one audience member in particular jumps out as unique.

She told Elle, “My three-and-a-half-year-old grandson thinks it’s the coolest thing.” “He is scheduled to attend the launch. He has a small astronaut uniform already.

Gayle King acknowledges feeling anxious before to the Blue Origin flight.
In an interview with Vladimir Duthiers for “CBS Mornings” that aired on April 11, just a few days before the expedition, King acknowledged feeling a little anxious.

“I’ll be ready Monday morning, I promise,” she replied. However, I still have a ways to go before I say, “All right, coach, put me in.” “Let’s go.”

She added that she was inspired to join the trip by the historic aspect of the space launch.

“There was something about being part of the first female team to me,” she stated. “They assembled a bunch of ladies that I found so remarkable that I was like, ‘Wow. Why wouldn’t I want to participate in that?

“I’m looking forward to just floating in space, and just seeing what that feels like, and what that looks like,” she stated.

Celebrities in space, including William Shatner’s space journey

Since the Soviet Union’s Valentina Tereshkova’s solo space journey in 1963, Monday’s blast-off marks the first all-female space flight.

However, Perry and King are not the first well-known celebrities to take their popularity into orbit. In 2021, NFL player turned television host Michael Strahan boarded a Blue Origin mission, and “Star Trek” actor William Shatner became the oldest person to travel to space.
