Jamie Lee Curtis burst into tears after winning the SAG Awards 2023.
At Sunday’s show, she received the award for outstanding performance by a female actor in a supporting part for Everything Everywhere All at Once. Angela Bassett from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Hong Chau from The Whale, Kerry Condon from The Banshees of Inisherin, and Stephanie Hsu from Everything Everywhere All at Once were the other finalists.
After expressing surprise at her name being called from her table, Curtis kissed costar Michelle Yeoh on the lips and made her way to the platform, where she became emotional and exclaimed, “Come on!” as she received a standing ovation.
“The engagement band my father gave my mother is on my finger. She laughed as she referred to her late parents, actors Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh. “By the way, they loathed each other by the end of it. “However, affection is how my sister Kelly and I were created. They had nothing and rose to become these monstrous stars in this business; my mother is from Denmark and my father is from Hungary. My folks worked in theater. Additionally, I wed a thespian named Christopher Guest.
“I enjoy acting. I enjoy performing. I enjoy the work that we do. I adore being a team member. I adore being an ensemble member. I adore the things we accomplish together. It’s a really lovely work. And I am aware that a lot of actors in our industry don’t get to work nights like this, making them wonder, “Will that ever be feasible for me?” I understand completely why you might assume, “Well, nepo baby, that’s why she’s there,” when you look at me. But in actuality, I’m 64 years old, and this is simply incredible!”
Yeoh signed up for Everything Everywhere All at Once specifically to work with Curtis, who then had the crowd chant her name. Michelle Yeoh, 60, cheered and sobbed from their table as she heard her say, “Michelle Yeoh, I love you, I love you, I love you.”
What an f—-ing dream, buddy, Curtis exclaimed as she finished her speech.
This season, Curtis’ portrayal in Everything Everywhere All at Once has earned her praise from critics and nominations for a number of awards, including the Oscars, Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards, and others.
The 2023 SAG Awards are being broadcast live from the Westin Century Plaza in Los Angeles on Netflix’s YouTube channel.
